RELEASE OF THE DRAFT REPORT FOR THE 2023 STEVEDORING AND HANDLING SERVICES PRICING REVIEW

The Independent Consumer & Competition Commission (‘ICCC’) wishes to inform the industry stakeholders, interested parties, and the general public of the release of the Draft Report on the 2023 Pricing Review for Stevedoring and Handling Services that is provided by all stevedoring companies throughout the country.

The ICCC commenced this review on 24th March 2023. Based on all the submissions received and the ICCC’s own analysis, a Draft Report is now released for further consultations. The Draft Report outlines the Draft Determinations regarding the regulation of stevedoring and handling rates for the next five years, commencing 1st January 2024.

The ICCC’s principal determination is that rates for stevedoring and handling services applying to international containerized cargoes at Motukea port and in the Lae Tidal Basin port will be regulated. As part of this determination, the ICCC has also determined the proposed maximum average tariffs for stevedoring and handling services provided by the International Container Terminal Services Incorporated (‘ICTSI’) through its subsidiaries, Motukea International Container Terminal Limited (‘MITL’), in Motukea; and South Pacific International Container Terminal Limited (‘SPICTL’), in Lae.

The ICCC now invites industry stakeholders, interested parties, and the general public to provide comments and submissions on the Draft Report no later than 4:30 pm on 3rd November 2023.
