ICCC COMMENCES AN INQUIRY INTO THE PNG AVIATION INDUSTRY – RELEASE OF THE ISSUES PAPER

The Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) has officially commenced an inquiry into the industry in Papua New Guinea with the publication  of an Issues Paper to encourage participation with the relevant stakeholders and the general public.

The inquiry’s primary goal is to assess whether the current structure of the aviation market promotes fair competition, operational efficiency, and consumer welfare. The ICCC aims to establish a transparent and accountable regulatory framework that ensures affordable and reliable aviation services in line with global best practices.

“The contributions of airline operators, regulators, service providers, consumers, and aviation experts will be vital in shaping a better future for the industry in PNG,” said Mr. Paulus Ain, ICCC Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer.

“Stakeholder feedback will assist in identifying practical solutions, fostering sustainable industry growth, safeguarding consumer interests, and enhancing the quality and reliability of aviation services,” he added.

The ICCC now invites written submissions from all interested parties, including government bodies, industry participants, and the general public.

Unless confidentiality is specifically requested, all submissions will be treated as public information. If certain information provided is considered confidential, submitters must provide a written application explaining their reasons, which the ICCC will review.

All comments and submissions must be provided to the ICCC no later than 30th June 2025.

An electronic copy of the Issues Paper can also be downloaded from the ICCC’s website (www.iccc.gov.pg).
